Architectural Prototypes II
A couple of years ago we designed the licentiate thesis of Jonas Runberger, a Stockholm-based architect. As he was completing his doctoral thesis, we were again asked to help consult on the design concept and production of his new book.
Our task was to develop a layout that allowed maximum amount of content on each spread in order to stay within page scope, while also making sure content was legible and the sometimes heavy reliance on cross-references easily manageable. While the physical format of the book was determined by its predecessor, our challenge was to find a workable grid system for text and images, and a simple yet effective typographic hierarchy in order to maintain legibility and a certain elegance in face of the density and complexity of the book's content.
